WOW

The World of Wearable Art, known as WOW, is a renowned international design competition that offers prize money plus incredible experiences with leading creative companies. Using the human body as a blank canvas designers create works of wearable art that are bought to life in a spectacular stage performance where theatre, fashion and art collide.

The final outcome brings together many creative talents. The spectacular headdress, Cosmos, was designed by Rinaldy Yunardi from Indonesia.

For the designers the opportunity to explore the rich surreal and whimsical worlds of ‘avant garde’. Each year the distinctly different garments inspire creative extension of the event theme. In this instance the development of a planetary home for each costume.  The featured garments are ‘Ernst Haeckel’s Bride’, by Nika Danielska of Poland, was at home amongst skeleton-like coral structures. ‘Eye See You Fluffy Kowhai’, by Tina Hutchison-Thomas of New Zealand, was immersed in a lush, breathing landscape. ‘Foreign Bodies’, by Dawn Mostow and Ben Gould of the United States, was surrounded by a pulsing latex landscape. ‘Mechanical Revolution’, by Luo Fan, Donghua University, China, was reimagined as an all-conquering intergalactic traveller.
